Secret Life of Walter Mitty Movie- Review from Career Perspective

Share:

The Christmas Season is always a great time to see the latest flick from Hollywood. I was not disappointed with Ben Stiller’s latest film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Movie.

The film is a modern take on James Thurber’s short story of 1939. Screen writer Steve Conrad, brings the story of an ordinary working person into the spotlight as he tries to escape his everyday life through adventurous, romantic and comical imagination. References to corporate downsizing, bullying and purpose are all brought to the surface. They are issues that affect so many individuals in our workplaces today.

The script is cleverly written to be both thought provoking and manages to hold your interest throughout the film. There are a number of story layers, almost like a maze that has the movie goer entertained and intrigued at the same time.

Ben Stiller shows off his gifted talents beautifully as an Actor, Comedian and Director and is a shining example that if we stretch ourselves there are many roles we can master in our lives. The film made me reflect on how many people daydream in their current jobs for a better job, a better life but yet make a decision to not be proactive to go after what they want.

The character of Walter is forced to travel the world looking for the mysterious photo no. 25 negative doing things he only used to imagine when working at his employer Life Magazine.

It is a reminder to all of us that we always have a choice and there is always a positive flip side to the reality of corporate downsizing and change.
